It's a Great Place to Live

We think Alta is a great place to live, and we're sure you would agree! We are located in Northwest Iowa, approximately 2 hours from Omaha, Nebraska, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Des Moines, Iowa.

Alta's a great place to raise kids. Our school district is considered one of the premier districts in Northwest Iowa where young people can participate in a wide range of activities - sports, drama, music, and student government to name a few - as they receive a top-notch education. Our public library has Internet services and allows inter-library loan service for patrons.

We're justifiably proud of our own customer-owned Municipal Utilities Company - since 1895 it's been providing the area with water and electricity. Alta-Tec, our telephone and cable company, also offers high speed internet access.

You'll feel safe here in our hometown, too. A highly-rated Volunteer Fire Department and three-member police force watch out for us, and we've recently added expanded 911 service. We're confident that you'll find all of the members of the city staff extremely helpful.

On Sunday, worship with one of our five in-town congregations, or one of the many in the surrounding rural areas.
