We Love to Have Fun

Alta residents of all ages have plenty of cultural and recreational opportunities. Our city park boasts a wooden "castle" playground built entirely with volunteer labor. A baseball/softball complex is one of the finest in the area. We just built a new pool shelter house and in addition, we have a community center, one public and two private golf courses, and an active community theatre. Take a drive around and see the sleek windmills that generate power for nearly 71,000 households each year. Alta is also the home of the Buena Vista County Fair, held every summer, and the popular Buena Vista Racetrack packs in auto-racing fans an average of 20 days a year. Close by, Storm Lake is a favorite destination for boaters, fishers, and picnickers, while historic Hanover Village brings history to life with its restored 1930's store, machine shed, and house.
